Monarch - J-mode to Chrysalis

This is a video that I made for the Charlotte Rhoades Park Butterfly Garden in Southwest Harbor, Maine. The monarch caterpillars came from this garden. The end of the season is near and we are collecting any remaining monarchs and keeping them indoors until they hatch from their chrysalises. The butterflies will then be tagged and released.

In real time it took 1 hour and 45 minutes for the caterpillar to go from its j-form to a chrysalis. The first 2 minutes and 35 seconds of the video were accelerated to 5 times the normal speed and the remainder of the video was accelerated to 25 times the normal speed. © Franklin Brown
